ἐκάθευδεν What does this word mean? Where does it come from?

I would like to know the origin of the word: "ἐκάθευδεν" because I haven't been able to find any resources for it. Please help me understand. The only place it's found in the Bible is Matthew 8:24

"ἐκάθευδεν" means he (or she) was sleeping.

It is past continuous, third singular person, of the verb "καθεύδω" = "I sleep"
