"That which was lost"&"them which are lost" from same Gr word but why do they translate into different Eng vb tenses?
by
Please give me the original Greek text.
Luke 19:10 and II Cor. 4:3
apollumi is the Greek word used in both texts (I believe)

Hi

In this phrase "το απολωλός" is singular number :
Λουκ. 19:10 "Διότι ο Υιός του ανθρώπου ήλθε να ζητήση και να σώση το απολωλός."

http://christianismos.gr/%ce%b6%ce%b5%ce%ba%ce%b1%cf%83-%ce%b3%ce%b9%ce%b1%ce%bd%ce%bd%ce%b7%cf%83-%ce%bb%ce%bf%cf%85%ce%ba%ce%b1%cf%83-191-10/#Ql2lJbirHvV1UmF2.99

The correct translation of the entire phrase would be:
"Because the Son of Man came to seek and to save the one who is lost (lost moral direction)."

Using plural (ie "those who are lost") is incorrect translation.  However the meaning is conveyed the same.
