"νέος" usually refers to people, "καινούριος" usually refers to things.

νέος(noun) = young man

Example: Τι όμορφος νέος! = What a beautiful young man!

νέος, νέα, νέο (adj.) = young

Example: Αυτή η γυναίκα είναι πολύ νέα. = This woman is very young.

καινούριος, καινούρια, καινούριο (adj.) = new

Example: Πήρα καινούριο αυτοκίνητο. = I bought a new car.

Τhe opposite of "νέος" is "μεγάλος" (grown-up).

The opposite of "καινούριος" is "παλιός" (old)

"μεγάλος" also means "large", right?  Isn't "ηλικιωμένος" a better word for "old"?
