For example “μέσα στο σπίτι” “έξω από το σπίτι”

I am confused by the fact that prepositions are sometimes followed by σε + article and sometimes by από + article. Are both forms possible for all prepositions? Is there a difference in meaning?

In greek, μέσα ( = in, into, inside) and έξω ( = out, outside) are adverbs of place. Ex. Έλα μέσα! (Come in!), Βγες έξω! (Go out!) Σε and από are prepositions.
