I’m reading «Ο ψεύτης παππούς» (Άλκη Ζέη).

How do I translate this sentense into proper English?

"Ασε που χρειαζόταν να πηγαίνει και στη βιβλιοθήκη."

Hi

Our expertise is not translating into English, rather the opposite, to translate into Greek.  However, I just searched and found the entire phrase:

"Άσε που χρειαζόταν να πηγαίνει και στη βιβλιοθήκη να διαβάζει!"

This is how I would translate this into English:  "Besides, she needed to go to the library to study!"

This is a continuous action, in the sense that she needed to go to the library every day to study.

Thank you for your fine answer. Ασε που is not easy to translate directly, because the basic word αφήνω means something like let, leave or resign. I’m really Danish, but my guess was that you prefer English rather than Danish.
You are absolutely right about "Άσε που".
