Hi!

When asked, "Απο που είσαι;" (Where are you from?).
I have been replying with:

"Αρχικά, είμαι από τη Βόρεια Αγγλία, κοντά στο Λίβερπουλ, αλλά ήρθα εδώ από τη Μάλτα". (Orininally, I am from etc.).

I have had a few perplexed looks from people upon hearing "Αρχικά" at the beginning. Obviously, noticing confusion knocks my confidence. 'Εκανα λαθος? Is there a more correct or colloquial way to explain that 'originally' I am from X but then Y?

Hello

This phrase does not sound proper:

"Αρχικά, είμαι από τη Βόρεια Αγγλία, κοντά στο Λίβερπουλ, αλλά ήρθα εδώ από τη Μάλτα".

It is not clear.  Were you born in North UK and then moved to Malta?  Or you had a transit flight through Malta on your way to Greece?  In the first case I would say:

"Κατάγoμαι από τη Βόρεια Αγγλία, κοντά στο Λίβερπουλ.  Αλλά τώρα μένω στη Μάλτα."
