Is not preceded by  εν and still sounds something like angelos.

Hello

The complex γγ is always found in the middle of a word. In official Greek it is pronounced as -ng-
Examples:
Αγγλία /anglia/ = England
άγγελος /angelos/ = angel
αγγίζω /angizo/ = touch

The comlpex γκ is found either in the beginning or in the middle of a word. In official Greek it is pronounced as g- in the beginning of a word and  as -ng- in the middle of a word.
Examples:
γκάζι /gazi/ = gas
γκαράζ /garaz/ = garage
αγκαλιά /angalia/ = hug
αγκώνας / angonas/ = elbow

This pronunciation rule may change depending on the area of Greece (or of Cyprus) that you are located.
