ζωή and βίος are synonyms, they mean life.

Βίος is an older word and is used in more formal cases.  Also "βίος" is used more to refer to the "way of life", while "ζωή" is used more to refer to the biological meaning of the word.

We say "έχασε τη ζωή του" (he lost his life, he died), but we would not say "έχασε τον βίο του".

Other examples:

Η ζωή είναι ωραία = life is beautiful.

Αυτός έζησε τη ζωή του όπως την ήθελε = he lived his life the way he wanted.

Ο βίος του Μέγα Αλέξανδρου = The life of Alexander the Great.

"Βίος" can also mean the part of a person's life, the activities:

Στον επαγγελματικό του βίο αντιμετώπισε πολλά προβλήματα  = He faced many problem in his professional life.
