Can "kai" (και) also mean "that is"?
For example i have come to understand that the water in John 3:5 is actually describing the Holy Spirit (see John 7:38-39) so John 3:5 can also read "Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and (that is) the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God." In other words, the water symbolizes the Spirit.
